Power
With the extreme power saving mode feature, the battery can last 2 weeks on 100% charge, 60 hours of 20% charge, 30 hours of 10% charge and 15 hours of 5% charge when it's on standby. That is very rear among high end Android Phones.
The Motion Launch Control
The new HTC One offers gesture control, another popular feature among new smartphones. The M8 has what HTC is calling Motion Launch, which is a series of gesture controlled shortcuts to let you activate the screen, answer calls, and turn the lock screen on and off without swiping or tapping. It does this using low-power monitoring of orientation, speed, etc., with its onboard sensors to predict what you’ll want to do when you unlock the device.

Commissioner arrested for goining through a fence

I had top post this.
The Nasarawa Police Command, Tuesday, arrested the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Innocent Lagi, for scaling the fence of the State House of Assembly to serve a court order.
Lagi was at the Assembly to serve the officials with a court injunction restraining the House from summoning the chairman of Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, and his commissioners to appear before them.
However, the News Agency of Nigeria, reported that he was not allowed to enter the premises by the security officers.
The Attorney-General, after being denied access to the complex, decided to jump over the fence, which prompted the legislators to order security officials to arrest him.
It was also reported that before Lagi arrived at the Assembly complex, the Chairman of the commission, Dr. Abdullahi Modibo, and five other commissioners had already responded to questions raised by members on the conduct of the exercise.

A bulb you can control with your smart phone

LG has launched the Smart Bulb in Korea, a light bulb that connects with Android and iOS devices, providing several interesting features.
The 10W LED bulb will let you control lighting in the house with a smartphone, and it can also flash-alert when you get a phone call.
Other features include a security mode which makes it look like you're at home when you're away, as well as pulsating to the tune of music (but only on Android devices).
The bulbs should run for more than 10 years, provided you use them five hours a day, LG claims.LG's Smart Bulb is not the only connected light bulb around. Recently, a company called AwoX announced a light bulb that can double as a Bluetooth speaker. We've also seen several Kickstarter projects to create a connected light bulb; the Wi-Fi enabled LIFX is one example.
The price for the LG Smart Bulb is 35,000 won ($32) in Korea

A phone with six camera. Amazon on it

After years of rumours, Amazon will finally launch its first smartphone within the next three to six months.
So says KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose known for his spot-on Apple and Samsung research, which is regarded as the most accurate in the world among analysts. And now his sights are set on Amazon as well.
The analyst believes that Amazon’s upcoming smartphone will feature six cameras, including one primary rear camera as well as a standard front-facing camera for video chats. The device is also said to have a special system of four additional cameras that will be used for gesture controls.
Kuo stated the following to website BGR: “Given the highly competitive smartphone market, Amazon will have to provide users with a unique experience to differentiate its phone from other brands. It would do this by integrating the smartphone with its own services such as e-commerce.”
“If Amazon’s smartphone is a hit, we would expect shipments to grow significantly due to the hardware features and business model. At the current stage, when market acceptance is unclear, we preliminarily forecast shipments of 300-600k units in 2Q14 and 2-3 million units in 2014.”
In terms of specs, Kuo says the Amazon phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 4.7-inch display with a pixel density of between 300 and 320 ppi, a plastic housing, a 13-megapixel main camera supplied by Sony, secondary cameras supplied by Primax, and a battery sized between 2,000 and 2,400 mAh.
“While Amazon’s smartphone is at the experimental stage, we think its hardware features and business model may have the potential to garner a positive market reaction, fuelling robust sales growth,” Kuo concluded.

No more twitter in Turkey.

Twitter users in Turkey report that the social media site has been blocked in the country.
Some users trying to open the twitter.comwebsite are apparently being redirected to a statement by Turkey's telecommunications regulator.
It cites a court order to apply "protection measures" on the website.
This comes after PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to "wipe out Twitter" following damaging allegations of corruption in his inner circle.
The BBC's James Reynolds in Istanbul reports that he is unable to access Twitter.
"I don't care what the international community says at all. Everyone will see the power of the Turkish Republic," Mr Erdogan said earlier on Thursday.
He spoke after some users had posted documents reportedly showing evidence of corruption relating to the prime minister - a claim he denies.
His office said that Twitter had not responded to Turkey's court rulings to remove some links, forcing Ankara to act.
Twitter has so far made no public comment on the issue.
There are about 10m Twitter users across Turkey.
In 2010, the country lifted its ban on YouTube - two years after it blocked access to the website because of videos deemed insulting to the country's founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Whatsapp might soon have a New Design

If you compare the interface of WhatsApp with that of Viber no one would likely describe WhatsApp as a beautiful piece of mobile software – in fact most would probably say quite the opposite. But it doesn’t have to be that way, and one designer has taken it upon himself to envision what might be possible under Facebook, with a look at how the interface and user experience might be made better.
Konrad Ziemlewski of Entropii pretty much nails it when he notes that WhatsApp as it currently stands is “an app you ‘have’ to use rather than one you ‘want’ to,” which is to say that it’s a utility through and through, without much in the way of joy. The design of the app hasn’t changed much over the years and multiple iterations, even when iOS 7 reinvented the visual language of apps on Apple’s mobile OS.
But Ziemlewski tackled not only the visual look of WhatsApp, but also the functionality, putting actions into slide menus that have previously been harder to find, and focusing on making it easier to find and browser rich media content, too. The design is one part Instagram, one part Facebook mobile, and one part Dribbble iOS 7 best practices mock-up, which results in an attractive package that’s unfortunately not likely to ever become a reality.
Why not, the optimistic among you may ask? Well, primarily because there’s no reason WhatsApp considers a drastic visual redesign important to its continued success. The current version helped it attain a $19 billion exit, as well as hundreds of millions of active users, so that’s not likely a priority for the mobile messaging service. The best we can hope for now is that Entropii sells this design to a would-be WhatsApp competitor and we can finally message in style.

Mail hacking scam watch out!

There’s a really deceptive phishing scam going around that tricks users into giving hackers their Google login credentials using a script hiding in a Google Drive document. The scheme raised some eyebrows at security firm Symantec, who discovered and reported the scam on their official blog.
The scammers send out emails simply titled “documents,” which asks the reader to open an “important document.” Clicking on the link brings up a Google account sign-in page, and though it looks legitimate, it’s anything but. The official-looking login page is actually a preview page for a folder storing the phishing scam on Google Drive. Once the user signs in, a PHP script records their login info. Since the site is stored on Google Drive, the page address says “ Google.com,” allowing it to pass a surface-level inspection. When it’s all over, the link sends the user to an actual document, reducing the chance that the user realizes what just happened.Once the perpetrators have your Google login information, obviously anything stored on your accounts is compromised and could be stolen. If you feel that you’ve fallen victim to this scam, we recommend that you change your account password immediately. Refraining from opening links from unfamiliar email addresses could also help you go a long way towards avoiding such pitfalls.

Apple Releases A Cheaper Version Of iPhone 5C

Apple seem to be competing at the low-end market now. Apple has just released a cheaper variant of its iPhone 5C, with only 8GB of storage memory, in Europe. The device, which has appeared on the website of UK carrier O2, as well as Apple's European stores, is otherwise the same as the 16GB and the 32GB iPhone 5C variants. It sports a 4-inch Retina display, 8-megapixel camera, and an A6 processor.
Reports that the iPhone 5C is not selling as well as expected were never officially confirmed by Apple. The sudden unveiling of an 8GB model might however mean that the company is rethinking its pricing strategy for the low-cost iPhone.
The 8GB iPhone 5C is not yet available on Apple's official website or the websites of any US carrier, so we don't know exactly how much cheaper it will be in the US. O2 prices it at least 50 pounds ($83, N13,612) cheaper than the 16GB variant, depending on the contract. At Apple's UK site, it is 40 pounds cheaper ($67, N10,988) than the 16GB variant sans contract; in Germany, the price difference is 50 euros ($70, N11,480).

World Wide Web is 25

In March 1989, Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first proposal for the World Wide Web at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Titled "Information Management: A Proposal", the document opened with this statement: "This proposal concerns the management of general information about accelerators and experiments at CERN. It discusses the problems of loss of information about complex evolving systems and derives a solution based on a distributed hypertext system."
The proposal, submitted on March 13, built on ideas that Berners-Lee had been working on with Belgian systems engineer Robert Cailliau. Outlining the central concepts and defining terms behind the Web, the document described a "hypertext project" called "WorldWideWeb" in which a "web" of "hypertext documents" could be viewed by "browsers."
None of this technical jargon may sound especially sexy, but today, this system has come to touch nearly every part of our lives

Apple's iOS 7.1 released

Apple released the long-awaited update to iOS 7, iOS 7.1, on Monday. The update includes several significant enhancements, the most notable being the addition of CarPlay.
CarPlay will allow users to enjoy all the features previously described, such as use of the dashboard touchscreen of CarPlay-enabled cars to send and receive messages, make phone calls and interact with Siri.
Speaking of Siri, another major change present in the update allows users to decide when Siri stops listening. Previously, Siri would try to detect when you stopped talking and then provide an answer. Now the software allows you to hold down the home button in the event you've paused your speech in the middle of a thought. This feature could be a huge time-saver — eliminating the need to continuously re-ask questions in perfectly-formed sentences. Interestingly, the update also includes what Apple calls "more natural sounding" voice options for Siri's Japanese, Australian English, Mandarin Chinese, and UK English voices. (Has someone at Apple been watching Her?)
Also included in the iOS 7.1 are changes to Calendar, FaceTime, Mail, Accessibility options, iTunes as well as various interface tweaks. The download is available now

Why Are Missing Malaysia Airlines Passengers’ Phones Still Ringing?

Family members of passengers aboard missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 say their loved ones’ phones are still ringing, and are begging authorities to use GPS to track them down.
Others say their missing friends and relatives are still signed into texting and chatting apps, but have been totally unresponsive since the plane mysteriously vanished last Friday.
But industry experts say both of these things don’t necessarily mean the missing passengers are alive — or at least not underwater.
“The ringing is not actually ringing at the other phone yet,” tech expert Jeff Kagan said. “It’s just telling you that the network is in the process of finding and connecting to it… In this particular case it’s painful because it gives people false hope.”
Distraught mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, children, other family and friends can’t help but call their loved ones repeatedly in hopes of hearing something — anything — on the other end.
But long-distance calls often “ring” many times before the phones actually connect. The sound keeps callers from hanging up because they don’t hear anything; however, if one device can’t be reached, the system eventually drops the call for the other.
Flight 370 was on its way from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing when it disappeared. But not before it went hundreds of miles off course, where military last tracked it above Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Strait of Malacca.
Officials are still attempting to locate the plane, while conspiracy theorists are calling the whole thing very “Lost”-like.

instagram has launched a new version 5.1

Instagram has launched version 5.1 of its app on Google Play today, with a redesign that makes for a much speedier, resource-light experience. Your profile should load in half the time, according to an official blog post announcing the news, and the whole app is half as large after the update. The app also has a new look, with “simplified visuals” across the experience that makes it easier for users to engage. Overall it looks like a flattened UI, which is more in keeping with what Android in general is doing, as well as with many of the changes made by OEMs to their own software. The redesign isn’t only meant to keep things looking good and running better – it’s also meant to make Instagram accessible and pleasant to use on a wider range of hardware, including low-end smartphones and Android-powered “feature phones,” according to Instagram, as well as on larger-screened devices like the phablets every OEM under the sun seems to be making. Missing plane: US regulators warned of problems on Boeing

Months before Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 mysteriously vanished, US regulators warned of a “cracking and corrosion” problem on Boeing 777s that could lead to a mid-air breakup and drastic drop in cabin pressure.
The revelation comes amid a desperate search for traces of the plane with 239 people on board, which lost contact with air traffic control at around 1730 GMT Friday, about an hour after take-off from Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing.
“We are issuing this AD (Airworthiness Directive) to detect and correct cracking and corrosion in the fuselage skin, which could lead to rapid decompression and loss of structural integrity of the airplane,” the Federal Aviation Administration said.
During a sudden drop in cabin pressure, the crew and passengers can become unconscious, leaving no one at the controls of the affected aircraft.
In 1999, a Learjet carrying golfer Payne Stewart crashed into a field in the US state of South Dakota after flying uncontrolled for several hours after those on board apparently became unconscious due to a lack of oxygen brought on by a loss of cabin pressure.
Malaysia’s air force chief has raised the possibility that MH370 inexplicably turned back and was quoted as saying the jet had been tracked hundreds of miles from its intended flight path.
The FAA circulated a draft of the directive warning of the cracking and corrosion problem on September 26, 2013.
A final directive was issued March 5, three days before the Malaysia Airlines jet disappeared. The FAA directive is to take effect April 9.
The FAA said it was “prompted by a report of cracking in the fuselage skin underneath the satellite communication (SATCOM) antenna adapter.”
“This AD requires repetitive inspections of the visible fuselage skin and doubler if installed, for cracking, corrosion, and any indication of contact of a certain fastener to a bonding jumper, and repair if necessary,” it added.
The FAA said an estimated 120 US registered aircraft are affected by the directive.
A supporting document accompanying the directive indicates that one unidentified operator reported a “16-inch crack” (40.6- centimeter) of the fuselage skin in an aircraft that was 14 years old.
Boeing performed a “metallurgical fracture analysis” of the affected section of the fuselage skin, according to the document.
As the hunt for the missing plane dragged into its fifth day, Malaysian authorities said they were expanding their search zone off Vietnam’s South China Sea coast to the Andaman Sea north of Indonesia, hundreds of kilometers (miles) away

Man arrested for sending live worms in letters to celebrities

A Taiwanese man has been arrested on suspicion of sending threatening letters containing live mealworms and ceremonial money — traditionally used in rituals for the dead — to local celebrities, police said Wednesday.
The case was first reported last month when a record company received a letter addressed to pop singer Jam Hsiao which contained a bag of crawling worms and similar letters were also mailed to a well-known lawyer, an entertainment industry agent and a chain restaurant.
The suspect, identified only by his family Lai, was apprehended late Tuesday in Kaohsiung City, after police interviewed aquariums and bird shops selling the yellow mealworm used in the threat letters to track him down.
According to the police, Lai admitted that he sent the worms and the ceremonial money to celebrities in a bid to gain attention, because he was upset that his girlfriend was prosecuted for violating trademark law.
In Taiwan, ceremonial paper money is usually burnt in rituals to pay respect to the deceased but it is also used to lay a curse and make death threats.

Wondering what a bermuda triangle mean?

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as theDevil's Triangle, is an undefined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. According to the US Navy, the triangle does not exist, and the name is not recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names. Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings.Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors. In a 2013 study, the World Wide Fund for Nature identified the world’s 10 most dangerous waters for shipping, but the Bermuda Triangle was not among them.

Important fact about missing malaysia airline plane

There are some astonishing things you're not being told about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, the flight that simplyvanishedover the Gulf of Thailand with 239 people on board.
The mystery of the flight's sudden and complete disappearance has even the world's top air safety authorities baffled. "Air-safety and antiterror authorities on two continents appeared equally stumped about what direction the probe should take," reports the Wall Street Journal.
WSJ goes on to report:
"For now, it seems simply inexplicable," said Paul Hayes, director of safety and insurance at Ascend Worldwide, a British advisory and aviation data firm.
While investigators are baffled, the mainstream media isn't telling you the whole story, either. So I've assembled this collection of facts that should raise serious questions in the minds of anyone following this situation.
  • Fact #1: All Boeing 777 commercial jets are equipped with black box recorders that can survive any on-board explosion
No explosion from the plane itself can destroy the black box recorders. They are bomb-proof structures that hold digital recordings of cockpit conversations as well as detailed flight data and control surface data.
  • Fact #2: All black box recorders transmit locator signals for at least 30 days after falling into the ocean
Yet the black box from this particular incident hasn't been detected at all. That's why investigators are having such trouble finding it. Normally, they only need to "home in" on the black box transmitter signal. But in this case, the absence of a signal means the black box itself -- an object designed to survive powerful explosions -- has either vanished, malfunctioned or been obliterated by some powerful force beyond the worst fears of aircraft design engineers.
  • Fact #3: Many parts of destroyed aircraft are naturally bouyant and will float in water
In past cases of aircraft destroyed over the ocean or crashing into the ocean, debris has always been spotted floating on the surface of the water. That's because -- as you may recall from the safety briefing you've learned to ignore -- "your seat cushion may be used as a flotation device."
Yes, seat cushions float. So do many other non-metallic aircraft parts. If Flight 370 was brought down by an explosion of some sort, there would be massive debris floating on the ocean, and that debris would not be difficult to spot. The fact that it has not yet been spotted only adds to the mystery of how Flight 370 appears to have literally vanished from the face of the Earth.
  • Fact #4: If a missile destroyed Flight 370, the missile would have left a radar signature
One theory currently circulating on the 'net is that a missile brought down the airliner, somehow blasting the aircraft and all its contents to "smithereens" -- which means very tiny pieces of matter that are undetectable as debris.
The problem with this theory is that there exists no known ground-to-air or air-to-air missile with such a capability. All known missiles generate tremendous debris when they explode on target. Both the missile and the debris produce very large radar signatures which would be easily visible to both military vessels and air traffic authorities.

Disadvantage of rooting Android devices

A lot of people talk about the freedom rooting phone gives you, without necessarily stressing the risks you face by doing so. Here’s a brief overview of the risk of this process. In case you decide to go for it, it’s best you take an informed decision for your own mobile security.

What’s Rooting?

Rooting is a process that allows you to attain root access to the Android operating system code (the equivalent term for Apple devices id jail-breaking). It gives you privileges to modify the software code on the device or install other software that the manufacturer wouldn’t normally allow you to. And for good mobile security reasons: they don’t want users to make modifications to the phones that could result in accidents beyond repair; it is easier for them to offer support if they allow users to only use the same unmodified version of the software.
But tech savvy users have already developed rooting methods, which vary depending on device.
But if it is improperly done, it can create havoc. And even done properly, if your phone doesn’t have proper antivirus protection for Android, rooting leaves your device open to all sorts of malware.
The following is the possible consequences of taking this action:
  1. You can turn your smartphone into a brick.Well, not literally, but if you goof up the rooting process, meaning the code modifications, your phone software can get so damaged that your phone will basically be as useless as a brick.
  2. Your phone warranty turns void. It’s legal to root your phone; however, if you do it, your device gets straight out of warranty. Say you root your phone and some time after that, you experience a phone malfunction – hardware or software related. Because of the Android rooting, the warranty is no longer valid, and the manufacturer will not cover the damages.
  3. Malware can easily breach your mobile security.Gaining root access also entails circumventing the security restrictions put in place by the Android operating system. Which means worms, viruses, spyware and Trojans can infect the rooted Android software if it’s not protected by effective mobile antivirus for Android. There are several ways these types of malware get on your phone: drive-by downloads, malicious links, infected apps you download from not so reputable app stores.
  4. Increasing the likelihood of user’s faults and deleting the system files.By rooting the Android, you will have access to everything and this will include all the operating system’s files. There is always the possibility of errors while you are making changes to system files and in case you remove a system file or update it with wrong configuration, then the OS may not work properly or even load. Although this is not a serious issue and by replacing a new clean ROM it will be resolved but it is still risky

London to install road crossing technology

With so much technological advancement happening everyday, the city of London is taking advantage of it to keep its people safer. The city has started planning to install smart pedestrian crossing systems by equipping its crossings with a bunch of sensors and devices.
This Smart Crossing systems uses cameras mounted on traffic lights to detect if pedestrians are piling up, and it automatically adjusts signals to give large crowds longer time to cross the road. In the future, the reverse might also be true: the city's transportation agency plans to tweak it so that lights change more quickly when everyone's safely on the other side.
The London Mayor, Boris Johnson said: "I am delighted that London is the first city in the world to be trialling this cutting-edge equipment, which will benefit pedestrians across the city.
"This really is a fantastic example of how London is leading the way by using 21st century technology to help make it easier for people to get around our great city. Innovation like this is key to keeping London moving efficiently and making our roads safer for everyone to use.

It's no longer news that the Samsung S5 is an awesome device from Samsung. However, did you know it is a heart-rate sensor? Yes, this feature is built into the phone next to the camera flash, the sensor can read a person's heart rate when he holds his finger up to it for a few seconds. The technology used isn't exactly new, but it's the first time we get to see it in a smartphone. It works by shining the phone's LED light on your fingertip, letting the sensor detect the blood flow beneath the skin. Amazing isn't it?
